Carmel A. Capati

Carmel practices immigration law focusing on family-based (marriage and fiance) immigrant visa petitions, waivers of inadmissibility due to hardship, religious worker visas, defensive asylum petition and representing clients are removal proceedings before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR).
Prior to founding Amicus Law Group, LLC Carmel was the attorney-owner of Community Legal Services, a general practice firm primarily serving Southeast Asian families and other ethnic minority group in Dane and Milwaukee Counties. Since 2004, Carmel has served as full-time Manager for the Court Interpreter Program with the Wisconsin Supreme Court's Director of State Courts Office. training and certifying interpreters to work in court.  She has given extensive presentations to judges, court staff, clerks of court, attorneys, executive agencies, direct service providers and community advocates on federal and state laws requiring interpreters for the limited English proficient population to ensure equal access.
Carmel earned her undergraduate degree in Journalism from Marquette University in 1988 and after a brief stint working in New York for a publishing company served in the US Peace Corps in Liberia. Upon her return to the states, she worked in the non-profit sector in Washington, DC and Madison, WI. In 1995, Carmel obtained a Master's degree in Southeast Asian Studies and a law degree from the UW-Madison in 1998. She published an article entitled, "The Tragedy of Cluster Bombs in Laos: Am Argument for Inclusion in the Proposed International Ban on Landmines" in the Wisconsin Law Journal, 16 Wis. Int'l Law Journal 227 (1997). She is licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin and the Eastern and Western US District Courts. She is a member in good standing of the Wisconsin State Bar and the Asian Bar Association.


Yer L. Vang

Yer practices immigration law focusing on the areas of naturalization, asylum, fiance petitions, domestic abuse immigration relief such as VAWA petitions and U visas.  She is a 2001 graduate of the UW-Madison Law School.
As a practitioner focusing in the area of immigration law, her legal skills are complimented by her diverse work experience in the areas of non-profit, government and the private sector.
While at the UW-Law School, Yer focused on immediately on gaining immigration law experience while representing inmates with immigration consequences. It was there she realized the great value of her own personal immigration background which allowed her to relate to her clients by employing her skills in legal knowledge and immigration law to resolve difficult immigration situations.
With her extensive education and experience in combination with personal interest and enthusiasm for immigration law, Attorney Vang effectively focuses her legal practice on providing excellent legal representation and services for individuals needing representation with immigration matters. Yer enjoys representing clients with appropriate levels of enthusiasm, while also doing the homework and knowing the law.
Yer is licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin and the Eastern and Western US District Courts.  She is a member in good standing of the Wisconsin State Bar, former Young Lawyers Division Board and the Wisconsin Asian Bar Association.
